David Takes 3rd At Boothill Speedway

100_0069.JPG

August 23rd-  Another race is in the books as David and the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds hit Boothill Speedway last night in Greenwood, La.  After watching a dark sky drop torrential amounts of rain everywhere except Boothill, David started the night off as good as you can by drawing a #1.

Set to take the green in the first heat from the pole, David outgunned the field to turn one and increased his pace as the laps counted on.  The Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified wired the field taking the checkers ahead of the seven car field for the win.

The heat race win earned David the pole position ahead of the 15 car-field.  Leading the field to the green, he quickly set the pace leading the first three laps.  On lap four David came out of turn two a little high which opened the door for Doug Ingalls to take the point.  The next lap saw the #28 slip back another two positions to fourth trailing Ingalls, Greene, and Jason Ingalls.  Fourth is where the #28 settled in as the four lead cars motored away from the rest of the field.  By lap 13 he moved up one spot to third position chasing Doug Ingalls and Danny Roy Greene, two drivers with countless laps and wins at the 1/2 mile track.  Time restrictions cut the feature to only 16 laps and when the checkers dropped the #28 Shed Road Auto Parts/Troyer/Well's Racing Engines wing modified came in at third.

Get Well Soon Rick Holt!

RickHolt.jpg
#20 of Rick Holt

August 22nd-  How does it feel to be trapped in your race car?  Just ask Rick Holt, driver of the #20 wing modified, who ten weeks ago was experiencing it first hand at Champion Park Speedway.  Rick was running in the top 10 when his driveline snapped at the end of the backstretch.  When it broke, it caved in (up) the floor pan pinching and trapping each foot.  Rick was trapped in his car for the better part of an hour.

After going to the hospital two days later, he was found to have a break in his lower left leg.  Several weeks passed and Rick was still not healing like he should have.  Another trip to the doctor last week revealed another break that was missed during the initial diagnosis.

This week he had surgery to correct and stabilize the second break and is now recovering once again.  The Holt's have always been great competitors and great friends as well.  Here's wishing Rick a speedy recovery!  Get well Soon!

David Wrangles A Win At Cowtown Speedway

August 16th-  Team DFR traveled west tonight to Cowtown Speedway and captured their first Texas Wing Modified Association feature after gridding the field eighth.  In addition to winning the 20 lap feature event, David also won his heat from the third starting spot.

Drawing a 6 put the Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified second row-inside for the second heat.  By lap four David found himself up front and took the checkers half a lap ahead of second place.

Since TWMA lines up their features by average points, David was gridded fourth row-inside even though he won his heat.  After riding the turns three and four wall for a good 8.0 seconds on the opening lap to avoid stopped cars on the track, David was ready to go to the front.  Pacing himself in the opening rounds, he picked off cars one-by-one and sometimes two at a time.  By lap seven the #28 was up to fourth and battling back and forth for third.  On lap 14 David pulled along side the leader on the backstretch but not without contact.  Over the next couple laps the two swapped paint as the leader apparently didn't like being passed.  Finally on lap 16 David took the point and endured a final caution which set up a three lap dash to the checkers.  The win gave David his first feature win of the season and his third straight heat win on Texas tracks this year.

Wedding Bells And Slot Machines!

122.JPG

August 8th-  It's was a long 5 days but the week in Las Vegas is over!  Rick and Amy Forbis exchanged vows at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday, August 4th.  It was a nice ceremony that was followed up with a limo ride to the famous "Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" sign.  To cap the evening off the group had dinner at the Top Of The World Restaurant on the 108th floor of the Stratosphere Hotel/Casino overlooking the Las Vegas strip.  The Stratosphere is the tallest freestanding building west of the Mississippi River, over 1100 feet up.

Click here for just a few of the 400 pictures.

On another note, David just called with a report from the Knoxville Nationals.  "It's hot"... that's a direct quote from the driver of the #28 Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified.

Now that the wedding is over and David is in Knoxville, Rick will give it another shot behind the wheel of the #28 at Champion Park Speedway tomorrow.

Las Vegas, Knoxville, and Champion Park Headline This Week

August 1st-  It's been a little quiet around these parts here lately... which is really good considering the sound a part makes when it's breaking!  After taking a few weeks to unwind and enjoy some of life's other pleasures, the team takes a road trip this weekend which begins a busy eight days.

This weekend Team DFR heads to Las Vegas as Rick, (crew chief/brother/part time driver), ties the knot to Ms. Amy Cook.  Amy was hired as the videographer for the #28 Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified this year.  Due to her love of the sport and dedication week-in and week-out, Team DFR decided they better do something to keep her around.  So, a coin was flipped to see which team member would take the hit.  As the coin was still in the air, David conveniently remembered he was already married, so then and there it was decided.

Well, maybe it didn't actually happen that way.  In any case, the celebrity wedding of Rick Forbis and Amy Cook will take place Monday, August 4th at the National Historic site 'Little Church of the West' in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Just as soon as David returns from sin city, he's back on another plane to the Knoxville Nationals (410 sprints) to fill a last minute vacancy.  Ironically, David has been tapped to fill the #28 seat for the weekend.

As David sits in seat #28, row F, at the Knoxville Nationals next Saturday, Rick will be behind the wheel once again in the #28 The Shed sponsored wing modified at Champion Park Speedway.

Be sure to check back for photos from this week's festivities in Vegas, or maybe mugshots at least.

Brakes, Tires, and Ring Gears Oh My!
July 13th-  After two nights of racing and several obstacles, Team DFR escaped on a high note.  Friday night David and the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds raced at Sabine Motor Speedway then onto Champion Park Speedway to conclude the weekend's events.  But before all was said and done the team would battle brakes, batteries, ring gears and even blown tires enroute.

Friday night started out decent as David started 6th in his heat and quickly moved up to third.  As he pulled up on the bumper of the second place car he found out his brakes were gone, hindering the challenge for second.  With no brakes the #28 fell one spot and crossed the stripe 4th.

After making repairs so the car would have some kind of brakes, David elected to start at the tail end of the field not knowing how good the fix was.  With the brakes manageable, he was able to stay out to put some laps in.  Then on one of the restarts, the car suddenly rolled to a stop in turn one.  Saturday morning it was found to have sheared the bolts on the ring in the rear end.  David was credited with 12 at the end of the night.

After thrashing on the car all day saturday for Champion Park Speedway, David was set to start 5th in the first heat.  Finding out the brake situation really wasn't much better, the #28 moved up one spot to take 4th in his heat.

Set to start 5th row-outside in the feature, the #28 Shed Road Auto Parts Wing Modified moved up a few spots and ran just outside the top 5 all night.  As the checkers flew on not only the race but the weekend as well, the #28 came home 6th.

Boothill Puts A Heel To The #28
July 5th- After all the hype for a return to Boothil Speedway, this is one team that's glad it's over!  The turnout for Boothill Speedway looked to have filled the grandstands to at least 90% capacity, a welcome sign for the track that has sat quiet for most of the last three years.

The night started well as David had a pretty good hotlap session, then drawing a 10 was just icing on the cake.  But when the green flag waved on the heat race, all hell broke loose.  It took two restarts to get a lap in, then it was three laps and a caution, two more laps another caution, then the final two circuits to complete the 8 lap heat race.  At the checkers David crossed the stripe third behind Ingalls and Greene.

The #28 Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified started the feature third row-inside as the feature took the green about 2 a.m.  On the first lap David noticed something was wrong when the brakes weren't slowing him down enough in the corners.  As the field came back around completing the first lap, there was nothing left of the brakes and the #28 slapped the wall in turn two ending the night.

Be sure to check the Video Page to watch the hot laps and heat race.

Boothill Speedway Just Two Days Away!

TexasdirtF.JPG

July 1st-  Just two more days until the Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified brings life back to Boothill Speedway!  Headlining Thursday nights' opening event for Boothill Speedway will be the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds who have history at the 'Hill dating back over 30 years.

With Boothill Speedway being just a few minutes down the road, David grew up watching the likes of Doug Ingalls win countless times at the 1/2 mile track.  Nowadays, David is racing weekly alongside the local legend where the pair finished one-two a couple weeks ago at Texas D.I.R.T Motorplex.  In case you missed it, the entire feature is on the video page.

Helping to 'hype' up this week's visit to Boothill Speedway, David has teamed up with 98 Rocks DJ and former Boothill Announcer, Tom Michaels.  Each day this week Tom Michaels is giving away tickets to Thursday night's card along with two David Forbis Racing t-shirts.

If your not lucky enough to win tickets on 98 Rocks, general admission is $10 and the races start at 8pm.  Until then, check out the new photos in the photo gallery.

It's A Rain Out At Ark-La-Tex Speedway

DSCN2540.JPG

June 28th-  Mother Nature decided she couldn't wait any longer last night.  With the heat races in the books and the track calling for the wing modified feature, the sky opened up and drenched Ark-La-Tex Speedway.  The night was called as 'complete' as several features were ran prior to the rain.

David started his heat race sixth and moved up to finish fourth after being held up by a slower car on the start.  Once he had clear track in front of him, he began to close the gap on the top four and moved into the third position.  Pushing the #28 Shed Road Wing Modified hard, he slipped off the backstretch coming off of turn two, without missing a beat or losing position he kept the hammer down and crossed the stripe fourth.

Looking ahead to next week, David and the #28 team will return to Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, Louisiana, Thursday evening July 3rd.

Texas-Louisiana Feature Race Video Added

June 23rd-  Video of David's second-place run from last weekend's Texas-Louisiana Shootout hosted by the Ark-La-Tex wing modifieds has now been posted!

David started fourth in his heat and led every lap to take the checkers for his third heat race win of the year.  In the feature he started third and ran second the entire race to Doug Ingalls.  The second place finish last weekend gave David his second runner up finish of the year.

David Takes 2nd at 'Louisiana/Texas Shootout"

TexasDIRT.jpg

June 21st-  Round One of the 'Louisiana/Texas Shootout' between the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds and Texas Wing Modified Association was held last night at Texas D.I.R.T Motorplex in Tyler, Texas.  Twenty-seven cars signed in for the biggest wing modified show in years.

After sitting out last week as Rick piloted the #28 wing modified at Champion Park Speedway,  David was ready as ever to get back behind the wheel... and it showed.

Drawing one of the highest numbers, a 31, David was gridded to start sixth in the third of four heats.  With one of the cars opting to move to the rear, the #28 was moved up to the second row-outside starting spot.  With one lap in the books, the first caution flew and David restarted front row outside.  On the ensuing restart David put the hammer down and wired the field, taking the checkers a good 20 car lenghts in front of the second place.

With a transfer position safely in hand, the #28 Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified was set to line up second row-inside for the feature.  At the drop of the green David settled into the third position until he made a pass for second at the lap one mark.  The night was almost over as quickly as it started as he made the pass for second he was hit hard on the right side of the car but kept control.  David pressed on in effort to track down race leader Doug Ingalls who at this point had about a 15 car lead.  By lap three the Well's powered Troyer had started to make up some ground on Ingalls until the first of seven cautions flew.  When the field gets the green again, David gets a great jump as he leads Ingalls at the flagstand.  But two more back-to-back cautions puts Ingalls back out front for the restarts.  The #28 is having a great night on the restarts, staying with Ingalls each time the green drops.  And again each time Ingalls has just a little more bite to distance himself from the #28.  With another 5 laps in the books David closes to within 3 car lengths, the closest he's been able to get to Ingalls.  This time lap trafic comes into play but so does the yellow once again.  Two more back-to-back cautions fly, setting up a three lap shootout with Ingalls leading the field to the green.  David closes to three car lenghts again as he tries to catch Ingalls, but is unable to run down the all time winningest SUPR Late Model winner as he settles for second place at the checkers.

Thanks to all the sponsors on the #28 Shed Road Auto Parts wing modified, The Shed, Troyer Race Cars, Well's Racing Engines, Warren's Automotive, Smith-Petty Trophies, and Walker Spring and Brake.

After Turning Wrenches, Rick Gets To Turn The Wheel At CPS
June 15th-  As the Third Annual Summer Shootout was held last night at Champion Park Speedway in Minden, a driver change was slated for the #28 wing modified.  Saturday evening David was to attend a wedding and would likely miss the start of the night, leaving the seat open for brother Rick fill in for the night.

Although Rick drew the second-lowest number at the draw and as was set for the pole in the second heat, he opted to drop to the back since it's been a while behind the wheel.  The heat race was his first chance to feel the car out since playday at the beginning of the year.  When the first caution flew right in front of him, the car jumped out of gear as he got off the gas, bringing him to stop.  After jumping out of gear one more time, he decided it was time to pull off and not bring out a caution.

Twenty-two of the twenty-four cars transfered to the feature including the #28 The Shed wing modified in the 19th starting spot.  The name of the game was survival as the crew chief-turned-driver for the night looked to stay out of trouble.  As the laps counted down he became more comfortable and pushed a little harder with each lap, able to mix it up with a few cars around him.  When it was all said and done with the checkers in the air, the car crossed the stripe 15th and was loaded up in one piece.

Next saturday David will back behind the wheel at Texas D.I.R.T Motorplex in Tyler, Texas, for the Louisiana/Texas Shootout.

The Hits Keep Coming

June 2nd-  After a head-on hit last weekend at Thunder Valley Speedway, the #28 The Shed wing modified was put back together over the week to race Champion Park Speedway Saturday night.  A special thanks goes out to Shannon Blundell for putting the front end back together late Thusday night and into the early hours of Friday morning.

So, you think things would be better at CPS, right?

Nine hours of ensuring everything was right Saturday morning before race is usually more than sufficient.  Apparently not for the #28.  Two laps into the heat race a bolt sheared off the right front and in doing so stripped the remainder of the bolts causing the wheel to come off.

After thrashing to find the right parts to make the feature the #28 lined up last of 22 cars.  As the green waved, somewhere up the line someone was on their brakes and bunched the entire outside row up.  With David on the gas, it's easy to guess what the result would be.  This week garnered yet another trashed front axle, cut tire, busted rim, steering arm and various radius arms for the The Shed wing modified and another DNF.

Quicker Than You Can Split a Troyer Up The Middle!

DSCN2397.JPG

May 25th- Once again Thunder Valley Speedway took a bite out of the #28 wing modified.  The car was finally working like it should again, the draw was decent, and the starting position was tolerable.

Starting fourth in the heat race David quickly jumped into second while taking the high side in turn one just after the green waved.  But it was a little too late as polesitter Myers had already checked out.  Able to reel him in just a little down the straightaways, it looked like we might be making some ground up.  But as the laps wound down The Shed wing modifed settled for the runner-up position crossing the stripe second.

Gridded third row-outside the #28 was feeling good as the green waved then ran wheel-to-wheel with former champion Rick Corte.  Two laps in the caution flew and the field was reset for an origional restart.  Once again bunched up for the green, another lap later the #28 got sideways in turns one and two on his own accord while running sixth.  Thirteen of the fouteen cars behind the #28 managed to miss David as he sat in the middle of the turn facing the wrong way. Just as he was about to refire and join the rest of the field in the back, the last place car came thru the turn not heeding the yellow and nailed the #28 head-on.  The impact was hard enough that pieces of the chassis were not to be found.  So far the damages are too many to list, but it's nothing a new front clip and replacing everything from the radiator forward wont fix!

Another Top 10 For The Two-Eight
May 18th-  After several weeks off it was time to get back into the swing of things at Champion Park Speedway in Minden, Louisiana.

During hotlaps the gremlins came to make their presence known as the car began to sputter after just one lap.  A closer look in the pits lead to a shorted wire as the culprit.  As usual, one thing leads to another and the team was scrambling to resolve the issue.

With the first two heats finished and the third heat race due in the gates, David took his spot on the outside pole.  With the race under way, David jumped into the lead exiting turn two but was unable to hold it.  Unfortunately with all the work earlier in the pits, his crew neglected to make some much needed changes to the car for the heat race.  David was able to hang on to finish third, transfering to the feature.

With the #28 once again needing attention before the next race, the team made some adjustments to get the car fired for the feature.  With no time to spare David pulled the #28 wing modified onto the track just in time to line up fifth row-inside.  As the race got underway it was evident the push was still there.  With no intention of playing 'follow the leader', David searched for a line that was to his liking.  Like most any race night the #28 was soon at the top of the track working the high side.  At times it was working and others it wasn't.  When he decided to try the bottom the results were much better as he made a few passes, but the push wasn't helping the cause.  As the final few circuits closed in, David brought the #28 The Shed wing modified in at 7th.

It's A 6th For DFR At Thunder Valley

DSCN2253.JPG

April 20th-  Another race in the books as David Forbis and team leave Thunder Valley Speedway with another top 10 last night.

The heat race was nothing exciting as it was pretty much follow the leader.  David started 5th and finished fifth, relegating the #28 to a seventh-row starting position for the feature.

By the time the wing modifieds took the track for the main event, the track was rutted up and looked like a washboard for the most part.  Despite the terrible track conditions, David put the #28 The Shed/Troyer/Well's wing modified up high, down low, and in the middle when he needed to.  Able to avoid the flips and wrecks under a full moon, David moved as high as fifth but settled for 6th at the checkers.

Forbis Takes Second At Champion Park Speedway

DSCN2078.JPG

April 13th-  Champion Park Speedway hosted the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds last night for the first of six appearances at the Minden, Louisiana track.  With 24 cars signed in, right off the bat it was clear it would be a tough night.

On a change of luck, David drew the second-lowest number during the draw as opposed from last time out when he drew the second-highest number.  The draw really sets the mood for the evening since it can give you a clean track in front or have you mired back in the pack.

Set to go green from the outside-pole in the first heat, the #28 Shed wing modified quickly set the pace taking the lead in turn one.  From that point he never looked back, taking the checkers for his second heat race win of the year.

Although lined up on the pole for the feature, David slipped back to third for the opening six laps.  After the first of three cautions he slipped back another three positions.  Searching different lines and trying to find the fastest way around the dryslick track, he started making progress towards the front.  Overall it was a slow battle to reach the leaders.  Finally on the last caution, the #28 had found it's way into the third position.  When the green dropped for the final three laps, the Shed sponsored wing modified outgunned the second place car and set sights on the leader.  Not happy with being beat to the corner, the second place runner cut thru the infield trying to make a pass only to hit the infield tire, taking himself out of contention.  At the checkers it was the #10b of Thomas Burge, the #28 of Forbis and the #20h of Rick Holt.

Team DFR Is Shifting Gears

theshed.jpg

April 6th-  Friday's race at Dixie Speedway was cancelled due to heavy rains then rescheduled for Saturday night.  Team DFR scheduled all family plans around the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifed schedule this year to support the series, but had prior engagements for Saturday as it was a 'scheduled off day', so the team was unable to attend.

Series Officials deemed Saturday's make up date a points race, a decision that baffled several teams on such short notice.  This decision will likely end Team DFR's championship run for 2008.  With the loss of valuable championship points, Team DFR plans to attend only selected Ark-La-Tex Wing Modified races the remainder of the season.  Many other dates will likely be ran with the TWMA when David isn't piloting a sprinter in preparation for 2009.

Not only a leader in the auto parts industry, Shed Road Auto Parts has been a leader in supporting the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds.  The Shed currently provides six Officials uniforms, Hard Charger stickers, Feature Winner stickers and also purchased a t-shirt sponsorship this year with the association.

Full Moon In The Bayou State

DSCN2084.JPG

March 22nd-  The full moon was full and working overtime as it hung over Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora last night.  Once again we see how the heat race draw is critical to start the night off right.  Unfortunately, drawing the second highest number can put you behind the eight ball real quick.

Gridded last of nine cars for the first of two heats, David planned to sit back for a lap or so and let the field sort themselves out.  Right off the bat plans were changed without notice.  As a car tried to avoid hitting the frontstretch wall exiting turn four, he cut down the track, causing David to wheel-hop the #55.  Davids heat run was ended as he came to rest with a broken shock and right front wheel.

With repairs made on the #28 Shed wing modified, David tagged the rear of the 18 car field.  Three laps into the feature, another car trying to avoid the frontstretch wall cut across the track, causing two more cars to check up and in the process collecting the #28.  Both the #28 and #4 cars came to rest in the infield and were done for the night.

With a list of parts to order come monday morning, Team DFR will replace, repair, and bang out the sheet metal in preparation for Saturdays race at Gene Boyter's Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana.

Texas Hold'em..... TWMA Style

HOTHeatWin.jpg

March 15th- Race #1 is in the books as David raced with the Texas Wing Modified Association last night at Heart of Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas.  It was an evening with controvesy to say the least.  Aside from the inconsistent officiating, last night produced a win for Team DFR their first night out with Dennis Well's power under the hood.

David pulled the low number for the draw and started on the pole for the first heat.  As the green waved, he quickly distanced himself from the rest of the heat as he kept the right foot on the floor.  By the time lap one was complete, he already had a 5 car lead.  Four laps into the heat race, the first caution flew and the field was bunched together for the restart.  Once again the Well's powered #28 wing modified was leading by another 5 car lengths the next time he passed the flagstand.  At the end of the 8 lap heat race David took the checkers 10 car lengths in front of the second place finisher.

As for the feature, the #28 The Shed wing modified was gridded second row-outside with an opportunity to sweep the evening.  After two separate cautions before a lap was complete, on the third attempt to start the race David spun bringing out the third caution in the first corner, still zero laps complete.  Due to some inconsistent rulings from the TWMA officials, they chose to black-flag David before the field even completed one lap of competition.  According to track officials at Heart Of Texas Speedway, the call was made to black-flag the #28 by TWMA officials whereas other regular TWMA cars received no penalty for the same incident.

Click here to watch David take the heat race win at Heart Of Texas Speedway.

Next week the #28 The Shed Well's powered wing modified will join the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds at Thunder Valley in Glenmora, Louisiana, for their season opener.

This is David's 16th year of wingin' it as he competes for the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modified Association Championship.  Get yours soon and show your support for one of the most talented drivers on the tour.

David Takes 4th at Texas D.I.R.T

sprintB.jpg
Brady Skains Photography

March 8th-  Last night was David's first shot at being a hired driver as he strapped into Neil McCarl's #X sprinter last at Texas D.I.R.T Motorplex with the Southern Thunder Series.

Filling in for McCarl who was offshore this weekend, David started off the night by missing hotlaps as the makeshift pit area didn't have speakers and a couple teams missed the call.  Set to take the green from he front row-outside without any hotlaps, David gunned to the lead beating the pole sitter to turn one, quickly establishing a lead of several cars.  After leading the first several laps, the first caution flew and bunched the cars back together.  With the tires cooled off, David was unable to keep the lead and settled for a second place finish.

As the green flew on the 20 lap feature, David was gridded second row-inside and settled into the third position as the field began to spread out.  Chasing down the leaders in the early stages  of the race, he noticed his power steering syetem was fading.  Holding a low line in turns one and two where the only moisture on the track was, he began closing the gap on the second place car.  Unfortunately, the steering was wearing on David as he had to throttle back several times while exiting high off turns three and four.  On the final lap, the fourth place car was able to make the pass relegating David to a 4th place finish.

All-in-all it was good night for David's return to a sprint car after three years.  The possibilty exists for future pairings of the McCarls' and David as he contemplates running the sprint ranks again in 2009.  DFR thanks the McCarl's for the opportunity to get back behind the wheel in a sprinter again along with the sponsors on the #X, Moore Metal Plating, Raven Performance, and The Shed.

Next week David is back the The Shed wing modified for the season opener with the Texas Wing Modified Association at Heart Of Texas Speedway in Waco.  The following week he's back with the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds for their season opener at Thunder Valley Speedway where he starts his quest for the championship crown.

Sprint Cup?  Naa... How About A Sprint Car!

sprintcar.jpg

March 6th-  As the weekend draws closer, so does David's first race of the year which happens to be in a sprint car.  As DFR.com reported earlier, David is jumping behind the wheel of Neil McCarl's 305 injected sprinter this saturday at Texas D.I.R.T Motorplex.  The car made a quick trip to Well's Racing Engines earlier in the week for a dyno session which tweaked up the horsepower to it's maximum potential.

David is clearly excited about the opportunity to stand on it in a sprinter one more time.  Unfortunately Rick, who turns the wrenches on the wing modified, was overheard saying something to the effect of "I aint working on no sprint car if you get in one",  so Neil's regular crew chief Clint "The Goob" Gobert will resume his duties on the sprinter for David's turn at the wheel.  When Clint isn't working on the sprint car, he's David's right-hand man at THE SHED.

Hammer Down For Test And Tune

32s.jpg
February 28th-  Last night team DFR made the short haul to Gene Boyter's Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La., for an open test and tune opportunity.  Right out of the box David put the hammer down as well as some impressive lap times in the #28 THE SHED wing modifed.  Making only slight chassis adjustments thru the evening for the changing track conditions, the Dennis Well's powered wing modified was pretty much dialed in for the test and tune.

With the wing modified set to go, David strapped into Neil McCarl's injected 305 sprinter for a little test and tune also.  With McCarl scheduled to be out of town next week as a new 305 injected class hits Texas D.I.R.T, David was tapped to fill the seat.  Although last night was mainly a shake down, Monday the sprinter will head to Well's Racing Engines in Duncanville, Tx., to hit the dyno for some fine tuning.  This will be David's first start in a sprinter since early 2006 with ASCS.

The next three weeks David will be on the track for three different series season opneners.  On March 8th David will be in the injected 305 class at Texas D.I.R.T, then on March 14 with the Texas Wing Modifeds at Heart Of Texas in Waco, then with the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modifieds for their opener at Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, La., on march 22nd.

This marks David's 16th year of 'wingin' it' across the southern United States to include Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.  Among the series he's competed with are The Southern Outlaw Wing 600's, National Modified Midget Association, Mid-South Mini Sprints, Florida Mini Sprint Association, American Sprint Car Series, United Sprint Car Series, SUPR Sprints, World of Outlaws, Texas Wing Modified Association and the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modified Association.

Speed Sunday Takes The Checkers

Ronnie Humphrey, Lake Speed, and David Forbis

February 10th-  Ellerbe Road Baptist Church roared to life this morning in a different manner than normal.  Today was Speed Sunday where ERBC played host to over 20 local racers and their race cars.  The event was highlighted by NASCAR Southern 500 winner at Darlington Speedway, Lake Speed.

After everyone had an opportunity to check out all the different types of race cars, Lake Speed opened the floor for questions.  "This is your golden opportunity to ask questions of someone whose vantage point  was from the backside of the windshield, not the stands."  Questions ranged from 'compare todays technology to the past' all the way to 'which tires he preferred to drive on, radial or bias ply.'

The message and reason for Speed Sunday was simple, faith in God.  Lake, who actively serves on the board for Motor Racing Outreach (MRO), was the center of Speed Sunday today to share his life story which contained many highs and lows.  Even though he was successful as a driver on the NASCAR circuit, he was quick to tell you he's "no better than the next guy."

Lake Speed had a great story to share today and David Forbis Racing was thrilled to be a part of the festivities.  DFR would like to say thanks to Ronnie Humphrey and Pastor Dennis Sims as well as Lake Speed and the members of Ellerbe Road Baptist Church for this event.

DFR To Run Well's Racing Engines For 2008
December 7th- David Forbis Racing will be running Dennis Well's power under the hood for 2008.  Well's, a highly respected engine builder among the American Sprint Car Series, has a 'checkered' past when it comes to race engines.

Based in Duncanville, Texas, Well's Racing Engines have put many a driver in victory lane over the years.  2003 and 2004 ASCS Sooner Region Champion Kevin Ramey has 18 Sooner Region wins, 13 ASCS Gulf South wins, and 8 ASCS National Tour Feature wins over the last several years.

Well's also provides power for Sam Hafertepe Jr., a regular on the World Of Outlaws tour and 2006 ASCS Sooner Region Champion.  Sam has amassed 6 ASCS feature wins split down the middle between Sooner and Gulf South Regions.  He also posted two top-fives on the highly competitive World of Outlaws tour this year.  More information about Well's can be found at www.wellsracing.com

With Well's under the hood for 2008, team DFR feels everything is coming together for a championship run!
